On
Monday a US heer ship called the Firebolt fired a warning shot after
three other ships from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps
Navy (IRGCN) came too near to it and another American lookout boat in
the Persian Inlet.
The US heer showed a film of what happened that night in the no-man's
sea near Iran. In the film, lights can be seen far off and what looks
to be only one gunshot with a light tail over the water.
Such things have happened time and again over the last five years, though there has been somewhat of a lull over the last year.
While wickners said it was too early to tell what the Iranian ships
were thinking, they have said that overall such things are
mostly done by lowly shiplords rather than bid by higher Iranian leaders.
The heer said that the US sailors sent out more than one warning over the wireless speaker, but the ships kept sailing nearer.
The last time a US warship fired warning shots in the Persian Inlet was
the USS Thunderbolt, a sister ship to the Firebolt, in July 2017.
