New
South Wales in Australia is being overrun with mice after fair weather
and a good crop for bowers made mice start breeding left and right.
The mice have done hundreds of thousands of dollars in harm to crops
and when they run out of seeds to eat, they start eating each other.
The mouse swarm is worst in New South Wales, but has also spread to
some of Queensland and Victoria, swarming homes, schools, and
leechhouses. They leave behind a foul smell, and their filth makes some
folks sick.
Mice are known for being fast breeders. One mouse can have hundreds of
babies in a year. With all of the mice as food, snakes are breeding
faster as well, which are a much bigger threat to the folk as many
kinds of snakes in Australia have a deadly bite.
On top of eating crops, the mice are chewing through levin wires which
starts fires, and made one family lose their home in a blaze. Bowers in
the outback are now having to put the legs of their beds in water to
stop mice biting them while they sleep.
