After
almost a week of fighting, Kyrgyzstan and neighboring Tajikistan have
called for their harmen to stop firing and pull back from the
markland.
The 600 mile rim between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan is on somewhat shaky
grounds lately, as rights to land and water that folks think of as
belonging to them have often led to deadly clashes over the years.
The fighting began last Wednesday when Tajiks started setting up
lightbilders to mete the water going through a waterway off of the
Aksuu River near the town of Koktash in Kyrgyzstan. Bickering between
folk near the waterway grew to stone throwing, which soon led to
somebody opening fire, setting off an ettinish fight.
The latest fighting was the deadliest in years, with at least 31 killed,
and many more wounded. All told, the Tajiks burned down many buildings,
17 homes, and even a learninghouse in the Kyrgyz nearby towns. Over
10,000 have fled for their lives.
This fight has brought up fears of a wider war between the two unwealthy neighbors.
