Reckoner
chips for making everything from clothes dryers to smart ovens have
been running low worldwide, and the dearth has gotten worse over the
last few weeks.
While most makers can still get their hands on the cheap chips that go
into making household sares such as dishwashers and the like, they may
run into hardship in the months ahead.
Many businesses in China that have been hit by trade bans are stocking
up on the most wanted chips so they can ride out the storm, making the
chips even harder for other businesses to get hold of.
Wainmakers like Volkswagen and Ford think they will take an even bigger
hit this fourth of the year, as the dearth worsens. For now they are
slowing down their makinghouses. The chips that they can get are going
into the well liked new wains that make the most income.
How much it takes to buy a new wain has been rising for a while now,
and will likely keep going up as the chips are thinning out. This has
made more buyers look for formerly owned wains rather than buy new.
