The
biggest ship in the Iranian fleet, the Kharg, was set afire and sank in
the Gulf of Oman - no lives were lost. Some in Iran say the deed was
underhanded.
The ship could not be barrowed from its lot. It sank by the Iranian
wharf of Jask in the Gulf of Oman, near the narrow Strait of Hormuz.
This is a swathe of sea that has seen many strikes on ships, often
owned by foes Israel and Iran.
The Kharg thewed as one of a few ships in the Iranian fleet that can
top up other ships at sea. The loss has curbed the fleet’s reach.
The ship, built in 1977, was bought by Iran from Britain in 1984 after lengthy talks that followed Iran's 1979 Islamic Uprising.
In April, Iran said another ship, the Saviz, had been amarked in the
Red Sea where it was struck with limpet blasts. This was after Israel
and Iran ahoned each other for strikes on ships in February.
These misdeeds have happened since US Foresitter Joe Biden took over in
January and said he would like for the US and Iran to bring back the
Kernel deal of 2015.
