The
Haitian Foresitter Jovenel Moïse was killed at his home yesterday
by unknown gunmen. This deed will further rattle the small island,
which has already been under deep unrest since mid-2018. The First
Wickner Claude Joseph will lead in the meantime, whilst Haiti reckons
out who the Foresitter should be.
Haiti fell into unrest starting in 2018, when it had been found that
Moïse had mishandled Venezuelan loans for his own wealth rather
than for welfare, as he had told the land. Owing to this, Venezuela stopped
shipping eal to the island, leading to rising eal tolls. Those who took
to the streets to call out what they saw as misdeeds of the Foresitter,
asking for him to step down.
Many of those who took to the streets were killed by lawmen. On the
other hand, the unrest wrecked many buildings and has led
learninghouses and businesses to shut down. Even with all of the
unrest, Jovenel Moïse did not step down. It is unknown whether
this killing had to do with the unrest over his foresittership.
