Over 1200 folks died and at least 5700 more were hurt after a big earthquake struck southwestern Haiti on Saturday.
The 7.2 strength earthquake struck about 75 miles west of the main town
Port-au-Prince. Aftershakes will likely go on for weeks or months,
bringing down already broken buildings.
First Wickner Ariel Henry said he was sending help to the most broken
towns where sickhouses were overwhelmed with incoming hurt folks. Henry
said he would not ask for worldwide help until the weight of the
brokenness was known. He said some towns were brought almost all the
way to the ground.
The US foresitter gave the go-ahead to help out right away, calling
Haiti a "near and lasting friend". Other riches, like Argentina and
Chile, said they were also getting ready to send help.
The US National Hurricane Center has forecast that the warm water
storm, known as Grace, will reach Haiti late Monday or early Tuesday.
This coming storm is likely to make things even worse having two big
hardships in a row.
