Norm MacDonald, beloved Canadian laughtersmith has died at 61 years old after a nine year fight with cancer. He had not been open about his illness before his death.

MacDonald (who was often known afoldly as "Norm") was well-known for his standup, his time on Saturday Night Live and sundry other things. He was harkworthy for his quick wit, his long-winded ribs, his deadpan way of speaking, and his brooking of wordplay.

Upon hearing of MacDonald's death, many of his fellow laughtersmiths acknowledged their love for his work, with some calling him one of the greatest laughtersmiths ever. Among them were David Letterman and Bill Burr. The Canadian First Wickner Justin Trudeau also spoke out after his death, saying that "the world was a much funnier [stead since] Norm Macdonald was in it."

Many online were quick to pull up something MacDonald said about cancer in a standup bit long ago: "I'm not a [leech], but I'm pretty [wiss] if you die, the cancer dies at the same time. That's not a loss. That's a draw."
