Magnus
Carlsen won against Ian Nepomniachtchi in this year's worldwide chess
showdown, keeping his name as winner for the eighth year in a row.
The worldwide chess showdown is a fourteen game fight between last year's winner and a foe who wants to take the winner's seat.
Russia's player, Nepomniachtchi, met Norway's, Carlsen, in Dubai where the showdown began on November 24th.
The first five games ended in a draw, with Carlsen taking game 6 while
playing as white. It was all downhill for Nepomniachtchi after that
loss. Though he got a few more draws, some say Nepomniachtchi's mind
never came back from the first loss, and that losing game 8 made him
cut his hair.
After that first win, only five more games were played, with Carlsen's
win on game 11 putting him four wins ahead of Nepomniachtchi, and
making Carlsen the winner of the whole showdown.
Carlsen being up four wins while having only three games left, the
showdown ended early, and everyone gave their going-away speeches on
Saturday December 11th.
