Warm-water storm, Rai, killed hundreds of folks in the Philippines over the
weekend, and left the Dinagat Islands wholly without lait or networks
with the outside world.
The storm called Rai, also known as Odette in the Philippines was the
biggest storm of 2021, and one of the worst the islands have seen, with
winds up to 160 miles a stund. Over 200 towns lost their lait when the
storm hit, some towns still without, and more than 300,000 folks had to
leave their homes.
Most of the folks killed were drowned in floods, but in some steads
that were hit the hardest, many buildings fell to the ground, killing
anyone inside. The Wielder of Dinagat Island, Bag-ao, said the whole
island had been flattened to the ground. The Red Cross is helping out,
but Bag-ao has asked for help from anyone else that can.
Foresitter, Rodrigo Duterte, flew to the stead most hurt by the storm
to see what harm was done. Duterte met with leaders in the hurting
steads and swore to give them $40 million in help to edbuild their
towns.
