Early
Wednesday morning, an earthquake struck eastern Taiwan on the south
side of the Hualien shire. The earthquake was a strength 7.4, with many
big aftershocks, making this the biggest quake to hit Taiwan in nearly
a fourth of a yearhundred. The last one bigger than this was a strength
7.7 that struck in the Nantou shire.
There are at least ten known deaths from this quake, as well as about
forty folks missing, and over a thousand wounded. Films on the web
showed many buildings that were broken from the shaking, and some that
had fallen over on their sides. Owing to Taiwan's earthquake, nearby
riches like Japan and the Philippines broadcasted waterwave warnings to
folks living near the shore.
A few big chipmaking businesses, like TSMC, said they would be shutting
down for a short while owing to the earthquake, but that they would be
back up and running soon. The foresitter of Taiwain, Tsai Ing-wen,
spoke out about the harm done to the Hualien shire and sent the harfolk
to help set things back up again.
