Iran
is in the midst of a longtime dearth of water that is getting even
worse. The foresitter of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, said that if Tehran
does not get more rain by the end of this year, the leedward will have
to begin dealing out water in shares.
This worsening water dearth is said to be owing to bad bowering and
misdeeds by the leadership. Bowers have been sucking out groundwater
faster than it can fill back up. At the same time, many dams have been
built without doing thorough underseeking first.
On top of things not going well within Iran, the neighboring rich,
Afghanistan, has built a new dam this year on the Helmand waterway,
which is shared by the two riches. This new dam will further lower how
much water Iran can get from the Helmand.
Amid heatwaves and widespread drought, many angry Iranish folks have
gathered in crowds to speak out against their plight. Leaders in Iran
have said that the only other path for dealing with the water dearth
will be to take water from the sea and unsalt it.
